We wish to use community gardens as the basis for bringing together people living in Luxembourg, asylum seekers and refugees. The project is strongly community-based and has as its goal the bringing together of people of all backgrounds around shared and human projects. The gardens will provide the opportunity for developing friendships, a shared language, activities and experiences. We intend to develop a variety of communal and collaborative workshops that revolve around gardening, ecology and intercultural life. Initially, existing projects, called the Gardens of Transition, will encourage the integration of asylum seekers and refugees, with new gardens to follow.
We hope that communal gardens will provide the basis for encouraging a successful communal life, discovery and the desire to become involved in other projects such as professional market gardening and/or food self-sufficiency. This process will begin by involving those interested in existing projects and will hopefully continue with the creation of a new project.
