Changes to the board of directors

Guy Dockendorf, a member of the board of directors of Œuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte since 4 December 2019, stepped down with effect from 1 October 2026. Gianni Mersch succeeds him on the board and as Chair of both the Remembrance & Heritage Committee and the Remembrance & Heritage Advisory Committee.

A commitment to remembrance

During almost seven years in office, Guy Dockendorf chaired the Remembrance & Heritage Committee and the Remembrance & Heritage Advisory Committee.

We would like to thank Mr Dockendorf warmly for his dedication. His expertise and commitment have left a lasting mark on Œuvre’s work in Remembrance and Heritage.

A new appointment focused on passing on history

A teacher at the Lycée de Garçons Esch, Gianni Mersch has worked with young people for many years, in particular through Uelzechtkanal, the school’s own TV channel. His experience in audiovisual media allows him to develop projects with students that build their independence, critical thinking, sense of responsibility and ability to work as a team.

This experience takes on special significance through his commitment to remembrance. For many years, Mr Mersch has accompanied young people on study trips to sites of remembrance, including Mauthausen and several of its subcamps. He therefore knows directly what is at stake in passing on history to new generations.

As President of the Amicale des Anciens Prisonniers Politiques Luxembourgeois de Mauthausen and an alternate member of the Comité pour la mémoire de la Deuxième Guerre mondiale, he brings together teaching, youth work, media, voluntary engagement and remembrance in his career.

We warmly welcome him and look forward to continuing our shared commitment to Remembrance & Heritage.
